British movie fans will get an eyeful of southern Utah in October — Danny Boyle’s “127 Hours,” which was filmed among Utah’s red rocks, will have its European premiere as the closing-night film of the BFI London Film Festival on Oct. 28.
“127 Hours” tells the story of Aron Ralston, the Colorado rock climber and adventurer who got his arm pinned by a boulder in a Utah slot canyon. James Franco plays Ralston in this survival story, which was filmed in southern Utah and on a Salt Lake City soundstage.
The BFI London Film Festival, according to The Hollywood Reporter, was an important stop for Boyle during the launch of his Oscar-winning “Slumdog Millionaire.”
“The London Film Festival played a vital role in the journey of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ in 2008 and it’s great to be bringing new work here and renewing a happy partnership,” Boyle said.
“127 Hours” opens in Britain in January 2011, but U.S. theaters will get it this November.
